Brandon: But I…I’m not bullet-proof.
Greer’s Narration: I was afraid of this, Striker “died” fighting Korvac…not his actual body, but he experienced it. And now he’s terrified. I’ve been there. If he doesn’t face it fast, it’ll paralyze him. Get him killed for real.

Greer: Remember what we’ve been practicing. The electro-magnetic force field.
Brandon: R-right…repelling bullets…but what if—
Greer: DOWN!
Brandon: Okay, it worked. It worked. I CAN DO THIS!
Ken: Hazmat, that was awesome. You too, Striker. We might just—
Greer’s Narration: Look at him. Scared to death, but trying so hard. After everything that happened to him—to all of them—before we found them…all the reasons they have to be angry and bitter and full of hate…We’ve been so concerned they’re damaged beyond repair. By their powers, by Norman Osborn, by life. So worried it’s inevitable they’ll become criminals. We should be ashamed of ourselves. What they’re doing right now isn’t just our training, it’s who these kids are. If anything breaks their spirit—it’ll be us.

Greer’s Narration: God, let me be in time to save him. He’s so young, still a kid… Of course, so were we. Newlywed, handsome cop husband, thinking the rest of my life was “happily ever after”… I wonder who that girl would’ve grown up to be? Not that it matters. Some things…some experiences…there’s before, and there’s after. And the before-you wouldn’t even recognize this after-you. The person I could have been died that day. No…she was murdered.

Avengers Academy #23

ugh. my heart. This ending is so tragic, but so well done. In this possible future, Finesse has lost her memory. Sooner or later, she will have absorbed so much knowledge and movements, that it’ll overwrite her memory of her loved ones. This is something she was warned about back in AA9 when Finesse faced off against her alleged father, Taskmaster, who has the same problem. And if you’ve read his 2010 Taskmaster mini, he explains more thoroughly that he can only retain implicit memories (which his photographic reflexes work by) and anything explicit, he forgets. And the more I think about this, this possible future gets overwhelmingly sadder as they share the same fate, he doesn’t remember his wife and would forget Finesse after their conversation. And Jeanne here couldn’t recognize her own daughter, and who knows if she remembers Reptil either. The hesitations when she spoke and that Maria’s moves only looked “familiar” worries me even more to just how bad her memory has become. 

But on the upside, I did love so much that in this future, Jeanne/’Berto are together, and not only that but have a family! I can only hope they’ll get together in the regular timeline and love each other, but please without all the tragedy. My heart can’t handle all this sadness.

Avengers Academy #23

Ahhh! Jeanne and Laura are too precious! “I have difficulty with emotions as well. I’ve constructed flashcards” man, this is one of my favorite lines ever. These two have to be best friends, they just HAVE to! They can sit in trees, read flashcards and talk about their feelings!

Also I’ve been seeing comments that Laura was ooc, but I don’t really think so. I thought she written fine, this is kinda how she is when she’s uncomfortable and plus she hasn’t been around a peer group in awhile. I wasn’t expecting her to be outgoing or anything. And her talking that much was just for Christos Gage to establish her quickly. So yeah, so far, I don’t have any problems with how she’s written. 

But what I really like is Laura pretty much listed reasons for why they should reject her, but instead they were all welcoming to her and I love that!
