Ant-Man, for the next one. (: oddly enough, I only had to do one of Hank versus three of Nat.
The first time I ever heard of Ant-Man, I thought he must be the most pointless superhero EVER. And then I started reading the comics, and I just love him so much. He’s so badass and smart and I just. Hank Pym. Yes. Always. I am so excited for his movie.
Hank: You’re…okay?
Greer: Cat versus mouse. What do you think?
Avengers Academy #4 by Christos Gage & Mike McKone
Hank: Attention, everyone! Welcome to the inaugural flag football game between Avengers Academy and the X-Men’s Jean Grey School!
Ava: You guys are going down! You’re gonna eat our dust and go home crying!
Doop: You get chippy with me. I’ll suck you into the extra-dimensional void in my mouth and you can kiss the backup brain in my butt.
Ava: Dude. Smack talk is one thing, but that sounded obscene.
Santo: Don’t expect Doop to go easy on you ‘cause you’re a girl. I hear he made Dr. Doom cry once.
Doop: Mess with the bull. You’ll get the horns.

Commission of some

Hank: Hazmat, got a minute? I have some good news. I just finished examining Leech. He shows no ill effects from having neutralized your powers. So we could make this a regular thing…biweekly perhaps—
Jenny: Pass.
Hank: Excuse me?
Jenny: I almost got killed out there today because my powers were dampened. I don’t want that to happen again.
Hank: Well, yes…it was a bad idea to schedule it on a day you were going into the field. But on an off day—
Jenny: What’s an off day? How do we know when a zombie cyborg alien’s going to beam in and attack us? No offense, Leech. You’re my hero for trying to help, and hanging out with me all day. But I think I’ll stay combat ready.
Hank: I…suppose that makes sense. I just…there isn’t some other reason?
Jenny: Like what? When it’s permanent, sign me up. When I can quit all this and go home and things can be like they were. Until then…I’m not giving anyone the chance to hurt me.

Ok, bear with me, because I’m pretty terrible at making selective reading lists. They also both have A LOT of appearances, so it really depends on what era of comics you want to jump into. The list is in vague chronological order with more modern stuff (and probably more readable) stuff towards the end. I’ve also tried to give brief summaries, so you can track down anything that takes your fancy. Hope this is what you were after!
Tash’s list of Marvel Favourites ✪
- I’m certainly open to it.
- You’d be open to setting your pants on fire if you’d thought you’d learn something new.
- Did — you just say —
- I did. I love you, Greer Nelson. I realise that may be more than you’re looking for right now, but —
- Hank Pym & Greer Nelson / Ant-Man & Tigra
Greer: If you liked it, you should’ve put a ring on it.
Hank: Can we keep my wreck of a private life private, please?
Greer: Hey, be glad you’ve got one. “Single mom who sheds” is not a profile that gets you a lot of hits on Match.com.

That man just doesn’t get the respect he’s owed.
MARVEL PANEL OF THE DAY
From: Tales to Astonish (1959) #27
In his first appearance, Hank Pym was already performing Judo throws on ants.

Hank: I don’t know, Hawkeye. I suppose it’s going well, and I appreciate you arranging it…but I still worry “media day” may be a mistake.
Clint: No offense, buddy, but that’s ‘cause you’re a nerd. Trust me. I started out a villain ‘cause I wanted attention. The spotlight. You make these kids famous for being heroes, they’ll be hooked for life.
Hank: You know, Clint, under all that carnival bluster, you’re a good man. I think I see why Janet left me for you.
Clint: Okay! I think that’s an Avengers priority signal…better get back to the tower…
