Finesse: LEAVE HIM ALONE! He learned everything you taught him! Tried to be exactly what you wanted!
Magneto: Pietro? Do you know this… person?
Quicksilver: Don’t… DON’T YOU TOUCH HER!
Avengers Academy #22
Jeanne has had ENOUGH of hearing Magneto belittle Pietro, bursts through the glass ceiling and attacks him! This was awesome! She’s always had a lot of guts. And Pietro is just as protective of her, instantly becomes furious with Magneto for attacking Jeanne back and goes to her defense. I loved that we got to see how much Jeanne & Pietro have grown to care for one another and that they have each other’s back.
And I like to think that Pietro is somewhat smiling in that first panel.
In return for my aid, my son must agree to no longer involve himself in mutant affairs. I’m sorry, Pietro… but you’ve done enough damage.
Avengers Academy #22
Man! This was some good stuff! While berating his son for damaging the mutant name, Magneto, the former mutant terrorist is not even acknowledging all the trouble he’s caused for mutants himself, especially when I’d say he’s pretty much responsible for a lot of their problems to begin with.
And it kinda looks like Jeanne is growling through the window, furiously of course.

Avengers: Solo #1
Gonna post some panels from this short story today. In this mini, Finesse, Striker & Hank head to Death Valley to find the creator of adamantium. Story for #1 is only five pages long, but it’s a nice read. Takes place between AA 20&21.
Avengers Academy #21
Hello, scene that completely broke my heart! Look at Jeanne! She’s so hurt finding out Pietro has been mentoring Julie too. The five already felt they were getting replaced by all the new kids coming in and Jeanne seems to have taken this one to the heart. And it was another humanizing moment for her.
But I do love Jeanne’s character growth, it’s been amazing. She’s showing more of her feelings and emotions through her facial expressions and concerns for others (those moments with ‘Berto). Every issue, I end up loving her even more.
So glad AA22 will finally be that Finesse/Quicksilver, throw in Magneto too issue my heart has desired for so long!

- The Academy backup story in Avengers: Solo #1-5 takes place between Avengers Academy #20 & 21
- The AA story is unrelated to the main Hawkeye one by Jen Van Meter happening in that book.
- Will feature just two of the students, Finesse and Striker (with Jeanne in this, it’s a must buy for me!) along with Hank and Tigra.
- Previews if you haven’t seen: Pages 1-2, 03
- Written by Jim McCann & art by Clayton Henry
—————————————
BF: What’s the format of the series? Is it two self contained tales each issue?
JEN VAN METER: Yeah. My story and Jim’s are independent of one another. Double the fun!
BF: Jim, you’ve written Hawkeye before. Now you’re focusing on Hank Pym. Which Avenger is next?
JIM MCCANN: It depends on who they let me write next! I’d love to return to Mockingbird. The Avengers are my favorite team, so really writing any of them would be fantastic!
BF: I take it you have a soft spot for Clint, seeing as you’ve tackled him before. Will he show up in your story, or is it solely focused on Hank Pym?
MCCANN: Clint’s hands are full in the main story of Avengers Solo. I’m playing with Hank Pym and two of the Avengers Academy, as well as Tigra. However, some other very familiar faces will show up in a surprising - and deadly - way.
BF: Is Hank a natural leader?
MCCANN: I’d say he’s learning to be a natural teacher. I think he COULD be a leader, but he’s more a mentor right now.
BF: Have you been reading Avengers Academy and how does your story fit into the ongoing series?
MCCANN: I have been reading (and loving) Avengers Academy. Christos Gage and I have very similar tastes and sensibilities, to the point where I absolutely envy his book. We spoke a lot before I started writing this story and it fits directly into their continuity - between issues 20 and 21.
